Public Relations

It is a big part of the job to get people to recognize what CAFCL does and whom it serves through a variety of programs. We do not serve just one segment of society. Our vision of a community that embraces all people really does mean people from birth to death. CAFCL may not be recognized by everyone in the community, however our programs are recognized and are constantly in demand.

The local newspapers and radio stations are great supporters of CAFCL. If there is anything happening within the organization that needs promoting and public participation, the Camrose Canadian, Camrose Booster and CFCW are more than willing to help out. There is also opportunity for the new station in Camrose (CAM FM) as time goes on and they become acquainted with the great work we do. The local media continue to be an outlet to whom we have to get our name and information out about our programs. The local radio stations are so cooperative that individuals in our programs with an interest in broadcasting have even been invited for tours and to sit in and watch radio shows unfold. This cooperation is greatly appreciated by the organization, the individuals we serve, and also the families that have ties to CAFCL. This provides another creative outlet and assists people to live and participate in the community.

Volunteers are a big part of the ongoing success of CAFCL. Our Annual Charity Auction would not be as successful if it were not for the hard work of a core group of people that show up every year to assist. These volunteers play a key role in organizing the entire event, from planning the theme to canvassing East Central Alberta for donations to making sure the night of the event runs smoothly.

The Big Valley Jamboree Parade is another event that utilizes the kindness of volunteers, in as much as CAFCL enters a float every year. This event provides us with another opportunity to get our name out to the public in a fun and theme oriented way. Each year, CAFCL takes the time to choose a theme for the year and that becomes the overriding message we get out for 12 months. This past year the theme was “In our Hearts we are the same” and it truly epitomizes what we want people to think, to feel and to live by.

The School Education Program continues to be a great public relations tool as well as a fantastic way to introduce youngsters to an adult with a developmental disability. Theresa Mokry is contracted by CAFCL to make presentations to grade three and four students. This past year she focused on “It’s what’s on the inside that matters” and she was extremely successful in reaching over five hundred students. Theresa speaks from her heart and wants to convey the message that everyone belongs and everyone has something to give.

CAFCL is a strong organization and our best ambassadors are those people who work for us. We have staff who have been with us for more than twenty years and others who have been here for two months. What they have in common is the ability to help others. We are all part of a community and by helping each other we will make it stronger.
